So what was happening about 7000 years ago – can’t think of anything – well next time someone asks you can say people were Bowling – albeit not with exactly the same rules and equipment we use today. Ten-pin bowling as it is currently known is thought to have originated in the mid to late 1800s. Complaints about the size and weight of ten pin bowling balls, led a Canadian ten-pin bowling alley owner to create a less strenuous version of the sport, with five less pins and a smaller ball. The ingenuity of the alternative sport led to the birth of 5-pin bowling in 1909.
